Who we are
Kawe and Kirsty are the co-directors of Taurikura NZ. They share a commitment to creating an Aotearoa where everyone, including future generations, have opportunities to thrive and achieve their aspirations.
Between them they have a wide range of experience and expertise in a range of sectors while sharing a background in community development and organisational culture change.
They have developed a unique niche, especially within the civics education space for hapori Maaori and other under-served communities.
They both live in Whatawhata, te rohe o Ngaati Maahanga and are actively involved in the life of Oomaero Paa and the general community.
Through their affiliations, networks and connections they are able to draw on the intergenerational nature of Māori communities, and engage the support and encouragement of rangatahi, pākeke and kaumatua throughout the Waikato District at local marae and other community centres.
They have also established a wide network throughout Aotearoa within local government and particularly Te Maruata roopu Whakahaere which is the Māori representative committee within Local Government New Zealand.
